POWERED BY COMMUNITY. DRIVEN BY PURPOSE.

What Are the Philanthropy Playoffs?

The Philanthropy Playoffs is a county-wide giving tournament created by the Community Foundation of Monroe County to turn generosity into friendly competition, and impact into celebration shared by the whole community.

Each team in the Playoffs represents a charitable fund held at the Community Foundation. These funds champion causes across Monroe County, supporting nonprofits, scholarships, and special community projects. Teams compete on behalf of their fund, rallying donors, sponsors, and supporters to raise dollars and earn points through fun challenges that showcase community spirit.

At the end of “Playoffs season”, teams share in the Fan Fund, a community-powered pool built entirely from public donations. The higher a team’s points, the greater their share – meaning every supporter helps shape the outcome.

This year, teams shared a Fan Fund totaling more than $127,000, fueled entirely by community generosity. Proof that when Monroe County teams up for good, everyone wins.

Whether you donate, join a team, or cheer from the sidelines, you’re part of the action helping to drive meaningful change across Monroe County.

Get in the Game

Ready to bring your cause to the Playoffs?

Becoming a team is as simple as starting a fund with the Community Foundation of Monroe County.

When you open a fund, you’re creating a lasting way to support the causes you care about most. Every fund has its own purpose and story. Some grow endowments for nonprofits, others invest in students, and some fuel community projects that make Monroe County stronger every day.

Once your fund is established, your cause is eligible to join the Philanthropy Playoffs and compete in the next tournament for good.

Want to explore which fund type fits your goals best? We’d love to help you get started and design a fund that’s uniquely yours.

Let’s Talk About Your Fund!

Our team can help you design a fund that aligns with your mission, maximizes your impact, and opens the door to opportunities like the Philanthropy Playoffs. Let’s build something lasting together.

Meet the 2025 Teams

In the debut season of the Philanthropy Playoffs, these CFMC funds set the standard for teamwork, generosity, and community spirit. Their effort and enthusiasm helped launch a tradition that will keep growing year after year.

Team Roy Sanders Scholarship

Team Roy Sanders Scholarship

Our scholarship fund was created in 2008 in memory of Roy Sanders. The scholarships benefit students who attend St. Charles Catholic Academy in Newport, Michigan. We would like to increase the award amounts and participating in the philanthropy playoffs provides a great opportunity to do so!

Team River Raisin Clubhouse

Team River Raisin Clubhouse

At River Raisin Clubhouse, we believe every person has value, dignity, and potential. We empower adults living with mental health disorders to live more independent, fulfilling lives by providing job training, educational scholarships, and life skills programs like cooking, computer literacy, and wellness activities. Your support helps reduce isolation and stigma by creating a welcoming, connected community, while also covering essentials like art supplies, gardening tools, and nutritious meals. With additional resources, we can expand our reach, support more individuals, and help reduce long-term community costs tied to hospitalizations, homelessness, and crisis care.

Team Monroe/Erie Youth Advisory Council

Team Monroe/Erie Youth Advisory Council

The Monroe/Erie Youth Advisory Council empowers young people to become compassionate leaders by teaching them the value of philanthropy and the importance of giving back to their community. Through hands-on experiences, council members learn how to identify local needs, make thoughtful funding decisions, and support impactful initiatives that create lasting change. Your donation to this fundraiser directly supports youth-led efforts that strengthen our community today and inspire a lifelong commitment to service in the place we all call home.

Team Cycling Without Age

Team Cycling Without Age

Team Cycling Without Age is riding to bring something truly special to Monroe County: an electric-assist trishaw—a $15,000–$18,000 electric assist bike with a front mounted seat. A trained volunteer pilot(driver) steers the bike. The trishaw allows older adults and individuals with limited mobility to enjoy the outdoors. It’s more than a bike—it’s freedom, fresh air, and connection for people who often miss out. The trishaw won’t roll out until we hit our goal, but every dollar raised gets us closer to making these joy-filled rides a reality right here in our community.

Team CASA

Team CASA

The goal of CASA of Monroe County is to serve all abused and neglected children in the county who are in foster care and under the protection of the family court. By matching a volunteer with each Monroe County Child in Foster Care, we will ensure that these children have an advocate working on their behalf. CASA volunteers are trained to provide objective reports to the court as to what is in the child’s best interest. National CASA/GAL reports that children with a CASA volunteer are shown to: spend less time in foster care, perform better in school, and score better on nine protective factors including a positive attitude toward their own future. CASA of Monroe County is focused solely on its mission to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children who are under the protection of the family court by training community volunteers who are sworn in as officers of the court and, subsequently, appointed by the court to the child’s case. We will be raising money for recruiting, training, placing and assisting volunteers who are the vehicle through which our child advocacy occurs. Without community volunteers, we cannot have a CASA program in Monroe County.

Team Anti Human Trafficking

Team Anti Human Trafficking

The Monroe County Anti Human Trafficking Coalition’s mission is to promote information and awareness about human trafficking in and around Monroe County (both sex and labor trafficking). As partner agencies and individuals, we are committed to a collaborative effort to identify, support, and assist human trafficking survivors. We are also committed to a close partnership with local law enforcement agencies to arrest human trafficking perpetrators. We do so through funding for professional training and equipment purchases.

How the Game Works

It’s part fundraising campaign, part game night—where each “team” represents a CFMC fund. Teams earn points through donations, ticket sales, and in-person challenges.

How can I help a team earn points?

  • Donate to the Fan Fund – Every $1 = 15 points for your team
  • Buy a Philanthropy Playoff ticket – Each ticket = 100 points
  • Share your team’s posts on social media using #PhilanthropyPlayoffs and their team hashtag. Help boost their score and their visibility!
  • Attend the Pep Rally on September 28 at Munson Park from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Every person who checks in earns them 5 points!

Every point earns them a bigger share of the prize pool—and the top two teams win bonus grants!

What’s the Fan Fund?

It’s a prize pool built from community donations. Every team earns a share based on the % of points they score. First and second place teams also win bonus CFMC grants ($5,000 and $2,500 respectively).
