Why should I establish a fund with the Community Foundation instead of giving directly to a charity?

We offer permanence, professional management, and oversight, ensuring your gift has a lasting impact while we handle all administrative details.

What assets can I use to establish a fund?

You can use cash, securities, real estate, life insurance, retirement assets, or personal property like artwork or jewelry.

What are the tax benefits of giving through the Community Foundation?

  • Life insurance policies

How is a Community Foundation different from a private foundation?

Community foundations are funded by many donors and support a wide range of charitable purposes. They are governed by a diverse, non-compensated board, receive tax benefits, and have greater operational flexibility than private foundations, which are typically funded by a single source.

What is an endowment?

An endowment is a permanent fund where the principal is invested, and only a portion of the earnings is used to support charitable activities. This ensures the fund grows, creating a lasting legacy.

What is a non-permanent fund?

Non-permanent funds allow both the principal and earnings to be spent, offering flexibility for immediate needs. However, they don’t grow as much as endowments and may offer fewer tax benefits.
